Glenroy FlowersWelcome to Black Cat Flower Garden

Nestled in the rolling hills of Glenroy in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, Black Cat Flower Garden is a small, seasonal flower business built on love, compost, and a whole lot of string.

Black Cats, and Flowers

I'm Cathy — gardener, flower-picker, bunch-maker, and accidental cat assistant. I grow fresh, local flowers from seed to stem, using sustainable methods and a quiet respect for the rhythm of the land. What began as a personal passion has gently bloomed into a community favourite — offering honest flowers for honest occasions.

Grown with Intention

Every flower that leaves this garden has been grown right here in Glenroy — no imports, no chemicals, no shortcuts. My approach is simple: seasonal flowers, compostable packaging, and arrangements designed to reflect the joy and wildness of nature. You'll often find them wrapped in plain paper, tied with jute string, and finished with a hand-penned note or label.

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword here — it’s a core principle. I believe your bunch should break down naturally in the compost bin once it's had its day in the vase.

What You’ll Find Here

Throughout the seasons, I offer:

Hand-tied flower bunches – Always changing with the garden. No two are ever the same.
Potted perennials, bulbs, and tubers – Ready for your own patch.
Occasional specials – For Mother’s Day, Easter, or ‘just because’ days.
Gift cards and simple signage – All handmade and recyclable.

Pickups are from the garden gate or, for local friends, I may deliver if I’m already headed your way.

Just ring me on 021 0274 1969 — it’s the old-fashioned way, but it works

The Black Cat in the Garden

Yes, there is an actual black cat. He’s part of the team — often joining me while I sort labels, string ribbon, or try to photograph jars and jam tins without him stepping into frame. He’s become a bit of a mascot, and you’ll spot him throughout the site.

Life in the Garden

At 320m above sea level, the garden keeps me on my toes. Some years we dodge frost; others we don’t. The flowers come in when they’re ready — I let nature lead the dance. You’ll find dahlias, zinnias, sweet peas, daffodils, cosmos, and all manner of wild companions across the months.

In winter, things quieten down. But even then, I’m usually planting bulbs or planning for spring — knees in the dirt, hands in the compost, and thoughts already a season ahead.

Thank You for Stopping By

This site is a gentle place. It’s not built for shopping carts and flashy buttons — it’s built for people who still appreciate a handwritten note, a bunch of real flowers, and a garden tended by hand. If that’s you, you’re most welcome here.

To see what’s blooming or place an order, call or send a message via Facebook. And if you’re ever in Glenroy — you’re welcome to visit the garden gate and see what’s in season.

From my patch to your home,
Cathy 🌼
