The Glenroy Flower Garden in Autumn:

July 19, 2025by Cathy Ritson

What’s Still Blooming and What Comes Next:

Up in the hills of Glenroy, the flower garden has started to quieten as autumn settles in. The trees have turned golden, the morning frost makes an occasional appearance, and the dahlias are just beginning to bow their heads after a bold and beautiful season.

At Black Cat Flower Garden, autumn is more than just winding down — it’s a thoughtful pause. There are still bursts of colour: a few cheerful zinnias, some shy cosmos, and hardy daisies continuing their show. These late bloomers are gathered into small bunches and wrapped in compostable paper, available at the garden gate while they last.

Being based at 320m above sea level means the Glenroy flower garden has to work closely with nature’s rhythm. No chemicals, no heated greenhouses — just good soil, tubers, and a keen eye on the weather. The cooler nights are also a cue to start thinking about spring. Tulip bulbs like ‘Ad Rem’ and ‘Sissi’ have already been tucked into barrels and pots for a colourful comeback next season.

Local customers are encouraged to follow the Facebook page for availability updates — and to message or ring for orders before winter fully takes hold.

For now, the final flowers of the season are a quiet reminder: Glenroy may be cooling down, but under the surface, next spring is already getting ready to bloom.
